New Delhi: Twelve years after a man was allegedly murdered during a violent clash in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri area, police have arrested the accused who had been absconding ever since the case was registered.The accused, identified as Gulab Singh, was wanted in the murder of Mohammad Kayam, a resident of Nand Nagri. The case was registered on April 10, 2014. According to police, several persons, including three brothers of the accused, were arrested during the investigation, but Gulab Singh allegedly managed to flee and evaded arrest despite raids and court warrants. He was declared a proclaimed offender by a Delhi court after failing to appear before legal proceedings.The accused kept changing hideouts across Delhi and nearby areas for over a decade. Acting on intelligence regarding his movement, a police team laid a trap and apprehended him.During interrogation, the accused revealed that after commiting the crime he left his home along with his wife and remained underground.The accused is a school dropout and had been running a clothes shop in the Natthupura area of Burari while remaining on the run. He was also previously involved in a 2011 criminal case registered at Nand Nagri police station under sections related to assault and attempt to culpable homicide.A separate proceeding under BNSS provisions has also been registered against him following his arrest.
