Nagpur: BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar on Wednesday urged the govt to fast-track development of a commercial airport at Morwa in Chandrapur, saying the industrially significant district could no longer remain outside the commercial aviation network.During a half-hour discussion in the Assembly, Mungantiwar sought speedy land acquisition, expansion of the existing 950-metre runway to 1,800 metres. additionally he also sought development of a terminal building, air traffic control tower and night-landing facilities.Minister Ashish Shelar assured the House that the govt was positive about the project and would expedite the process.Mungantiwar said better air connectivity would boost tourism, trade, industrial investment and jobs, while improving access to the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, Bamboo Research and Training Centre, Sainik School and major energy projects.He also said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had responded positively to the proposal and viewed it as a priority for the region’s long-term development.Shelar praised Mungantiwar’s sustained follow-up, calling it “consistent, research-driven and development-oriented”. He said the project would strengthen industrial connectivity and boost wildlife tourism linked to Tadoba.
