Mumbai: Tardeo police have ruled out any drug angle in the death of a 28-year-old law graduate who fell ill during a music event at Worli’s NSCI Dome on Saturday night. They suspect he may have suffered a cardiac arrest.Rushil Gangurde, who lived in Mahim with his doctor brother Tanay (32) and sister-in-law, attended the ‘Klangkuenstler All Night Long’ event with friends on Saturday night. He reportedly complained of uneasiness and was rushed to Breach Candy Hospital, where he was declared dead during treatment. An autopsy conducted at civic-run Nair Hospital on Sunday recorded the cause of death as “opinion reserved pending accessory examinations”. “The exact cause of death will be established depending upon the histopathology report. The viscera has been sent to Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory,” a police officer said.Rushil’s body was handed over to his family on Sunday. “No drug angle has come to our knowledge so far. We are collecting information from various sources,” said the officer.A woman attending the same music event also fell ill and was taken to Jaslok Hospital for treatment; her condition is stable. She told police she had consumed alcohol. Rushil too had consumed alcohol at the event.“We have recorded the statements of 12-14 people so far,” said the police officer. In the FIR, Tanay, who is the complainant in the case, said his brother would drink alcohol, but had quit smoking and had never consumed any other drugs. After being informed of his brother falling ill at the music event on Saturday night, Tanay first visited Jaslok Hospital, before reaching Breach Candy Hospital, where he was taken to the emergency ward and he identified Rushil. “When I asked the doctors about my brother’s health, they said he was admitted to the hospital at 9.40pm. My brother was not responding to any treatment; his heart rate and blood pressure were not being recorded and his body was turning blue. Seeing all these symptoms, doctors…gave him medication and conducted other tests and declared him dead at 10.25pm,” Tanay stated in the FIR.Police have booked the event organisers, Spacebound Web Labs CEO Karan Singh and project manager Parag Narendra Uke, under BNS Sections 106 and 289 for causing death due to negligence and negligent conduct with respect to machinery. “We have recorded their statements, issued them notices, and asked them to join the investigation whenever they are called,” said the police officer.Police said that the organisers had all permissions for the event, adding: “But it is the organiser’s duty to take care of all the participants and facilities. Hence, they have been held responsible for death due to negligence,” said the officer.
