Mumbai: A woman in her mid-30s who attempted to hang herself and her three-year-old son following a dispute with her husband over his alleged extra-marital affair, were both saved by the police who broke open the door to her residence and entered it. Timely call to the police control room by her neighbours in the building near Bhendi Bazar in south Mumbai, and cops’ quick response saved the woman and her son’s lives. On entering the flat, police saw the woman had tied dupattas around her neck as well as her son’s from the ceiling fan while standing on the bed.When questioned about it, the woman said she had taken this drastic step under severe stress due to domestic disputes over her husband’s alleged extra-marital affair.The incident took place on March 29 night in the jurisdiction of the J J Marg police station. The woman was inside with her younger son while her husband and the couple’s older son aged 13, were outside.It was police constable Kiran Pote who informed an officer at the police station about the situation. The couple was counselled by police sub-inspector Anjali Babar and the woman’s in-laws took her home. She was attended by inspector Rahul Pawar, woman sub-inspector Usha Chavan and other cops.
