MUMBAI: Ten people were injured after a crane at a demolition site in Kurla tilted and fell towards an adjoining structure early on Friday, coming down on railway overhead equipment (OHE), officials said. Central Railway said there was no disruption to passenger train services as the affected Kurla-Trombay section is primarily used for goods traffic.The incident took place at about 2.40am at Building No. 1 of Bhandari Metallurgy in Qureshi Nagar.MMRDA said demolition work was being undertaken at the site and that a crane had been brought there for the work, but its operations had not commenced.According to MMRDA, the crane tilted and fell towards an adjoining structure while it was being positioned. The agency said the ground at the location was soft, which appeared to have affected the crane’s stability.Central Railway said the crane fell on the OHE on the single-line Kurla-Trombay section from the nearby MMRDA work site. It said the incident was the responsibility of MMRDA.MMRDA said some people sustained minor injuries and that it was providing medical assistance and support to them.The authority said it had immediately mobilised machinery and manpower to remove the fallen crane and that the site had been secured, with necessary precautionary measures being taken.
