NAVI MUMBAI: A 45-year-old tempo driver was arrested by Turbhe police for allegedly molesting the 10-year-old daughter of a Mumbai police constable after calling her into his chawl room in the Turbhe MIDC area on Sunday afternoon.The accused, identified as Akash Pisal, is a native of Satara.Turbhe senior inspector Sunil Shinde said the incident occurred between 12.30pm and 1pm. It came to light when the girl’s mother went looking for her after another minor girl, who had been playing with the victim near Pisal’s room, told her that the “driver uncle” had called her inside.The girl’s mother knocked on Pisal’s door. When he opened it, she found her daughter inside and visibly scared. The girl told her mother that the accused had attempted to remove her top.Shinde said the girl’s mother then lodged a complaint, following which Pisal was detained. A medical examination of the girl found no evidence of sexual penetration.Police subsequently arrested Pisal and registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act for alleged sexual assault involving non-penetrative physical contact and sexual harassment of a child.On Monday, Pisal was produced before a Belapur court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
