Surat: BJP MP Mukesh Dalal has sought a formal police inquiry into viral social media posts offering “Rent a Garba Partner” services during Navratri, raising concerns over their intent, legality and potential to mislead the public.In a written representation to the Surat police commissioner, Dalal requested an investigation into the origin of the posts and individuals or organisations behind them. He urged police to take appropriate action if any legal violations are found.Dalal said Navratri is a significant religious and cultural festival during which devotees worship the goddess and large numbers of youths participate in garba celebrations across the city.The MP argued that the “Rent a Garba Partner” posts appear to commercialise participation in the festival. According to the complaint, the posts advertise package options including Silver at Rs 1,000, Gold at Rs 1,500 and Platinum at Rs 2,000. The offerings reportedly include a garba partner, dancing together and the creation of photos or social media reels.Seeking a detailed examination of the matter, Dalal asked that the Cybercrime wing verify if the posts involve illegal activities, fraud, misrepresentation or attempts to deceive members of the public.He also requested that police identify those responsible for circulating the content and initiate proceedings if violations are established.Dalal also appealed to citizens to exercise caution while responding to online offers. He advised people to avoid making payments without verification and to promptly report suspicious social media content to local police or Cybercrime police.
