Srinagar, Oct 26: Member of Parliament Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan has taken up the issue of Kashmiri Umrah pilgrims stranded in Saudi Arabia with Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and the Consul General of India in Jeddah, Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri, seeking urgent intervention to ensure their safe return.
Ramzan expressed concern over the hardships faced by the pilgrims and their families, particularly elderly people and those experiencing medical or financial difficulties.
He said the prolonged uncertainty and additional expenses on accommodation, food, medicines and alternative travel arrangements had caused considerable distress among the affected pilgrims.
The MP urged the concerned authorities to coordinate with relevant agencies and airlines to arrange special flights for the stranded pilgrims. He also called for financial assistance for those unable to bear the additional costs of returning home.
Emphasising the need for adequate arrangements, Ramzan urged the authorities to ensure accommodation, food and medical care for the pilgrims until their departure, particularly for elderly people and those with health concerns.
He stressed that the safety and well-being of all affected pilgrims should remain a priority and called for prompt, coordinated action to facilitate their early return to India.
