Mumbai: A 24-year-old motorist died in a fatal crash after a head-on collision between his car and an autorickshaw at Marve, Malad West, late on Friday. Police said the car burst into flames after the motorist, Abdul Mateen, was extricated from the vehicle. The auto driver has also suffered injuries and has been hospitalised.The crash occurred around 6.40 pm near Jari Mari Mata temple at Marve, close to Military camp . Police said the auto and the car had a head-oncollision. Due to the impact, the steering wheel of the car hit Abdul Mateen and left him seriously injured. Bystanders extricated Abdul Mateen and rushed him and the injured car driver to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital. Thereafter, the car burst into flames. The police and the fire brigade were informed.The car was completely charred. The fire brigade put out the flames by 7.15 pm. Abdul Mateen succumbed to the injuries. Police said he did not suffer any burns. The auto driver is still under treatment.As of now, Malwani police have recorded an accidental death report. Police will examine CCTV footage to determine who was at fault before registering an offence.
