A family outing turned tragic at Srinivasasagara dam near Chikkaballapura Friday evening when a 39-year-old mother and her 19-year-old son drowned after being swept into deep waters by strong waves.The family of four — autorickshaw driver Raju, his wife Rekha, son Hemanth and daughter Deepa — was visiting the dam from Gangawara village near Budigere in Devanahalli taluk of Bengaluru Rural district.The four were playing in the water, holding one another, when a powerful wave swept across them. While Rekha and Hemanth were pushed into deeper waters, Raju and Deepa lost their footing and fell.Alerted by their cries, some visitors managed to pull out Raju and Deepa, who were close to the shore, to safety. However, another wave reportedly swept Rekha and Hemanth further into the tank. Despite frantic efforts by visitors to locate them, the two drowned.
