Bettiah: A six-month-old girl was allegedly killed by her mother, who slit her throat at their residence in Barka village under Gopalpur police station in West Champaran district on Thursday night, police said.The deceased, Pooja Kumari, was the daughter of Sunil Das.According to family members, Sunil had left for Chandigarh a week ago for work. In his absence, his wife, Seema Devi, allegedly attacked the infant with a vegetable-cutting blade inside the house, killing her on the spot.On receiving information, Gopalpur police reached the village, arrested the accused and recovered the weapon used in the crime.The victim’s grandmother, Saraswati Devi, said Seema had been suffering from mental health issues. She added that the couple, married for two years, had been living happily. However, Seema’s condition deteriorated after the child’s birth six months ago, and she had been under stress since her husband left for work in Punjab.Gopalpur SHO Ankit Kumar said, “The incident is being investigated from all angles and the actual reason behind the murder is being ascertained. The exact motive will be clear only after the investigation is completed.”Police said the accused remains in custody and is being questioned.
