Vadodara: A 26-year-old woman suffered chemical burns from acid on her face and neck after her mother-in-law allegedly threw the acid on her during an argument over cleaning a bathroom at their home in the Gorwa area, police said.The victim was admitted to SSG Hospital for treatment. Gorwa police registered a case against her mother-in-law, husband, father-in-law and two sisters-in-law and started an investigation.According to the complaint, the woman, a resident of a society on Panchvati Sahyog Road, married a Vadodara man in 2021. She alleged that since her wedding, her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and two sisters-in-law had repeatedly quarrelled with her and subjected her to harassment.She alleged that her mother-in-law had assaulted her in the past, while her sisters-in-law would instigate her husband against her. The family members also allegedly questioned her fidelity.According to the complaint, on the afternoon of Sep 10, her mother-in-law asked her to clean the bathroom using acid. The woman refused, saying she was allergic to acid.This infuriated the mother-in-law, who got the bottle of acid from the bathroom and threw some on the right side of the woman’s neck and face.The woman suffered burns and contacted her husband to inform him about the incident. She alleged that she did not get any help from him. She then contacted her cousins from her parental family, who took her to SSG Hospital.Police said further investigation is underway.
