Ahmedabad:In a tragic incident from Amraiwadi, police have arrested a 33-year-old woman following the death of her two-and-a-half-month-old daughter. The case, which was initially reported as an accidental fall into a water tank, took a serious turn after the mother allegedly confessed to concealing the incident and raising a false alarm about the child going missing. The infant’s father, Deepak Makwana (39), a resident of the area, has filed a complaint with Amraiwadi police accusing his wife, Monika, of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. According to the complaint, Makwana left home around 8am on Friday for work, leaving behind his wife and their two daughters — seven-year-old Krisha and the infant, Vishva. Police said the accident occurred later in the morning while Monika was at home with the children. Around 11.30am, Makwana received an urgent phone call from a neighbour asking him to return home immediately. When he arrived, he found a crowd gathered outside his house, with locals attempting to revive the infant. He was informed that the baby had fallen into a water tank. The child was rushed to LG Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Initially treating the case as an accident, police began further inquiry after the father questioned his wife. In his complaint, Makwana stated that Monika claimed the infant slipped from her arms as she was going downstairs to switch on the water pump. She reportedly slipped after her leg got entangled with a mop, causing the baby to fall into an open water tank. However, Makwana alleged that instead of immediately informing anyone, his wife panicked and closed the lid of the water tank, placing an aluminium vessel over it. She then allegedly went to the first floor and raised an alarm claiming the baby was missing. Amraiwadi PI R B Chavda said the mother later confessed during questioning. “She became afraid that she would face anger from family members and others, which led her to hide the incident and create a false narrative,” he said. Based on the complaint and preliminary investigation, police registered a case and arrested the woman. Further investigation is ongoing.
