Vasco: Mormugao municipal council (MMC) has decided to impose strict ban on the sale of wholesale fish in Vasco city and have issued further necessary directions to all the concerned authorities to impound vehicles which are found in the illegal trade.A joint site inspection of entire Khariawada belt was conducted by the municipal authorities involving its chairperson Girish Borkar, along with govt authorities such as deputy collector and sub divisional magistrate Mormugao Pratap Gaonkar, Mormugao mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit, chief officer Siddhivinayak Naik, Vasco police inspector Vaibhav Naik and others on Friday .“The municipal council has already notified Baina and Vasco fish markets wherein the council has adopted a resolution to shift the wholesale fish operators in the Baina fish market complex. Despite issuing warnings, the wholesale fish operators have failed to shift at Baina fish market complex. This has propelled the municipal authorities to impose total ban on the sale of wholesale fish in entire Vasco city, especially those operating at Khariawada seashore belt from May 23 onwards”, Borkar told TOI.Pratap Gaonkar has said that RTO authorities will be directed to take necessary action against vehicles of fishermen who fail to comply with the rules.
