State BJP president Sanjay Saraogi welcomes Chetna Jhamb into the party fold in Patna on Thursday

Patna: A day after mathematician KC Sinha joined the BJP, Jan Suraaj functionary Chetna Jhamb, Vikassheel Insaan Party national vice-president Anand Madhukar Yadav and Fatuha block pramukh Shruti Shree joined the saffron party on Thursday.BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi said growing public faith in the party’s policies and development initiatives was encouraging people from different political outfits to join the BJP.Anand said BJP national president Nitin Nabin was an old friend. Chetna, who contested the last assembly election from Samastipur on a Jan Suraaj ticket, said the BJP had evolved beyond being merely a political party.“We are all aligned with this ideology. We must channel our energy towards the progress of the country and Bihar. Joining the BJP offers a great opportunity to learn and to make Bihar better,” she told reporters. The spate of defections ahead of the July 30 Bankipur bypoll is being viewed as the BJP’s attempt to dent the morale of Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor, who is contesting his first election.Posters carrying Kishor’s photograph appeared in Patna on Thursday with the caption, “KC Sinha is merely a trailer; the forfeiture of PK’s security deposit is yet to come.”The BJP has fielded a booth-level worker against Kishor, who has projected himself as an agent of change in Bihar politics. The bypoll is significant for the BJP as Kishor has described it as a referendum on CM Samrat Choudhary.Bankipur has remained a BJP bastion for more than three decades and was represented by Nitin Nabin before his election to the Rajya Sabha.
