Rajkot: A 20-year-old man from Umiya Township in Morbi, Pallav Varmora, who assists his father in running a tiles and marble business, was allegedly duped of more than Rs 86 lakh in a stock investment fraud.Morbi Cybercrime police registered a complaint against Rohan Kumar, Lalit Broker, Sagar Patel and Nachiket Rabari for criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy.According to the complaint filed by Pallav’s father, Bharat Varmora, 45, his son was approached by several people over the past two months with promises of high returns from stock investments. The accused collected money from Pallav through online transfers and angadiatransactions but neither returned his investment nor paid the promised profits.The complaint states that Rohan Kumar first contacted Pallav in May and offered to invest his money in the stock market. Lalit Broker later obtained Pallav’s documents through WhatsApp and gave him a UPI ID and QR code to transfer funds.Between May 19 and June 4, Pallav transferred Rs 4.87 lakh through nine online transactions. On May 30, he was shown a profit of Rs 9,400, after which the accused allegedly introduced him to investment schemes involving shares of companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Adani, Bharti Airtel and Shree Cement.Another accused, Sagar Patel, told Pallav that larger investments would have to be routed through an angadiafirm. He said direct bank transfers would attract heavy taxes and the profits would also be transferred via the angadia channel.Trusting these assurances, Pallav allegedly sent Rs 81.48 lakh through six angadiatransactions to the accused in Himmatnagar between June 6 and June 23.Pallav got suspicious when the accused demanded more money and failed to release the promised profits. He then approached police.
