Rain in Bhubaneswar on Saturday

Bhubaneswar: IMD forecast on Sunday said conditions would likely to be favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon to more parts of Odisha in the next four to five days.Such forecast came after the southwest monsoon saw no sign of further movement over the state in the last two days. It hit some pockets on Friday. “There was no movement over the state in two days. The prevailing wind pattern influenced to some extent to check advance of monsoon over Odisha,” said Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist of IMD centre in the city.Dwivedi, however , did not rule out advance of monsoon to some more parts in the state in a day or two, amid light to moderate rain or thunder storm activity experienced in some south Odisha pockets during the day.An IMD bulletin said there would be also no large change in day temperature in the next three to four days.It said the hot and humid condition warning would continue in some districts on Monday. Similarly, orange and yellow warning of rain and thunderstorm activities would continue in some districts during the next three to four days.Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm may occur at many places in some districts.All such forecast came with day temperatures continuing to rise in many parts of the state.On Sunday, Boudh at 42.8 degree Celsius recorded the day’s highest temperature in the state. Titilagarh and Balangir followed at 41.5 and 41 degrees Celsius, respectively. The city recorded a maximum of 39 degree Celsius.
