Ahmedabad: Rain and overcast conditions brought the city’s maximum temperature down to 30.8°C, 3.9 degrees below normal, providing respite from humid conditions. The minimum temperature at 26°C was 0.5 degrees below normal. According to the forecast, the city is likely to experience a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on Wednesday. The relative humidity (RH) recorded was 87% at 8.30am and 97% at 5.30pm.Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon covered the entire state and parts of Rajasthan on Tuesday, about a week later than its usual onset in Gujarat. Parts of South Gujarat received heavy to very heavy rain. Palsana in Surat district recorded 446mm of rainfall till 8pm, followed by 403mm in Surat’s Kamrej, 360mm in Navsari, 327mm in Surat city, and 256mm in Jalalpore (Navsari). In all, 182 talukas received 1mm or more of rainfall.According to State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) data, Gujarat has so far received 20.4% of its seasonal rainfall, with 24 talukas receiving 501-1,000mm and one taluka, over 1,000mm. Region-wise, Saurashtra received 27% of the seasonal rainfall, the highest, followed by 25% in South Gujarat. In contrast, Kutch received 2% and North Gujarat 12% of seasonal rainfall so far.Out of 206 water reservoirs, 109 or more than 50%, are only up to 25% full. Sardar Sarovar Dam is at 65% of its capacity, according to SEOC.
