Udaipur: What began as an ordinary morning of wheat harvesting in an Udaipur village turned into a dramatic struggle for survival when a leopard attacked a farmer resting in his field, only to retreat after langurs rushed in and villagers raised an alarm. The incident occurred Wednesday morning in Losing village under the Gogunda police station area of Udaipur district.Tulsiram Paliwal, 55, had finished harvesting wheat and moved under a tree for shade when the leopard, believed to have been hiding in nearby bushes, suddenly pounced. Paliwal said the attack came without warning. The animal clawed at his neck as he tried to fend it off. In those frantic moments, help arrived from an unexpected quarter. “Following the sudden attack, two langurs from among those sitting on a nearby tree came down and saved me,” Paliwal said. The farmer said loud calls of the troop of langurs alerted the villagers working in nearby fields, prompting them to rush to his aid. The disturbance created by the monkeys and the ensuing noise from the villagers proved too much for the leopard, which quickly retreated into the forest. “My life was saved because of the monkeys,” Paliwal said, adding that he suffered minor scratches on his back and hand. Residents from nearby fields took the injured farmer to the govt health centre in Losing, where he was given primary treatment. Doctors said his injuries were minor. The attack left the villagers shaken, with fear spreading across the area as concerns grow over the movement of wild animals near farmland. Residents informed the forest department soon after the incident and demanded that a cage be installed to capture the leopard.
