Keonjhar: Police on Friday recovered the body of a 65-year-old monk of the Mahima Alekh cult from near a pond at Amuni village under Sadar police station limits in Keonjhar district.Police suspect a land dispute could be behind the murder, citing a long-standing property feud. The exact motive will be ascertained after the probe, police said.Sources said the incident occurred in the morning when Mahakud went to the village pond to defecate. A murder case has been registered and further investigation is on.The deceased was identified as Shrikant Mahakud, a resident of Amuni. Police said he had multiple head injuries. Family members alleged he was killed after being struck with a stone.On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body and collected samples. The body was sent to the district headquarters hospital for postmortem.“The investigation is underway. We have some clues and the accused will be arrested soon,” said Sadar police station IIC Amit Kumar Bhuyan.
