Jaipur: Amid heavy rainfall in several districts, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting at his residence to assess the situation. He directed officials to remain on alert, closely monitor the water levels in rivers, ponds, and reservoirs, and maintain constant vigilance in flood-prone areas.“Citizen safety is our top priority. Relief and rescue work must be carried out with both sensitivity and urgency,” Sharma said, addressing officials. The chief minister instructed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), civil defence and home guards to stay fully prepared with adequate resources for any emergency.Control rooms in every district have been asked to operate round the clock. The chief minister also directed officials to widely publicise helpline numbers so that citizens can access immediate assistance. “No one should feel helpless in this situation. We must ensure that help is just a call away for every citizen, especially in vulnerable areas,” said Sharma.Sharma ordered continuous monitoring of damaged dams, canals, and embankments, emphasising swift repairs to prevent any further crisis. “The administration must act quickly. Repair work cannot wait when lives and livelihoods are at stake,” he told officials. He also directed the evacuation of people and livestock from high-risk zones and instructed officials to ensure that relief camps are stocked with drinking water, food, medicines, and other essential supplies. Infrastructure repairs in flood-affected areas, especially roads and restoration of power supply and connectivity, have been marked as urgent tasks.District administrations have been instructed to install warning boards at flooded roads, bridges, and riverbanks to prevent accidents. Officials have also been asked to make timely decisions on school closures in affected areas. Sharma appealed to the public to follow safety protocols. “I urge people to avoid crossing flooded roads or venturing near rivers and drains. Please stay alert to avoid any mishap,” he said.Sharma asked for constituency-wise reports on dilapidated buildings, waterlogged areas, damaged roads, and vulnerable river crossings. He emphasised that financial aid for the families of the deceased and injured in rain-related incidents must be provided immediately and with sensitivity. “In disaster situations, delay in relief is as harmful as the disaster itself. We must act fast and with compassion,” Sharma stated.
