The residents of the house were startled by strange noises

Vadodara: Residents of a colony on Waghodia Road were in shock on Friday when a huge monitor lizard slithered into a house and disappeared behind a washing machine.Startled by strange noises, the family soon discovered the unexpected intruder that was hiding in the narrow space in the compound of their house in Shrinathji Colony. Panic spread as the four-foot-long lizard hissed, thrashed its powerful tail and appeared aggressive whenever anyone walked close to it.The locals immediately contacted a wildlife rescue team that rescued the reptile. Though non-venomous, these lizards can cause bacterial infection. Mostly seen in the ravines of Vishwamitri River in and around the city, they feed on rodents, frogs and eggs. During monsoons, the monitor lizards often stray into residential areas.
