Kolkata: In a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress over the RG Kar rape and murder case, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the victim’s mother had worked hard to make her daughter a doctor, but “lost her to Trinamool’s jungle raj”. The PM also alleged that “anti-national slogans” were written on the walls of Jadavpur University, blaming the West Bengal government for “failing” to save the state’s largest educational institution.

Referring to women candidates fielded by the BJP, including the mother of the RG Kar hospital rape-murder victim, Modi said the party has given representation to those who had faced injustice. Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar hospital victim, is BJP’s nominee from Panihati constituency.

Modi asserted that every individual linked to the larger conspiracy in the RG Kar rape and murder case would be identified and held accountable after a BJP government comes to power in West Bengal. He was addressing a campaign rally in North 24 Parganas district on Friday. He further alleged that the Trinamool had failed to protect women and had instead suppressed their demands for justice.

On BJP’s victory
Expressing confidence in a BJP win in the assembly elections, Modi said the record voter turnout in the first phase indicated a shift in favour of the party. “It is clear from the voting pattern that in some districts, Trinamool Congress will not be able to open its account this time. There was a record polling percentage in the first phase, and this record must be surpassed in the second phase on April 29. The people of West Bengal will ensure the defeat of Trinamool Congress,” he said at a rally in Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district.Stressing that there is a “kranti” (revolution) in Bengal, Modi said, “People who have voted in large numbers must rest assured that a new ‘vikas ka yug’ is coming. This is a significant opportunity for change. Do not waste a single vote. Bengal has been looted.”

He added that people would vote to make Bengal number one in the country again and make the vision of Syama Prasad Mukherjee come true. “Voting for BJP will bring ‘azadi’ (freedom) from corruption, syndicate raj, and goonda raj, among other issues,” he said.

On Jadavpur University

“Jadavpur University was once respected across the world. The campus was founded on the bedrock of nationalism. But look at the situation today: threats are being issued within the campus, anti-national slogans are being written on the walls, and students are being forced into protests instead of focusing on their studies,” the Prime Minister said.
