Nagpur: The long-awaited new marketplace of the Nagpur Itwari Kirana Merchants Association has finally become a reality, with the groundbreaking ceremony held at Mouja Chikhli (Dev) on the occasion of Gudi Padwa. Grocery traders currently operating from the narrow lanes of the Itwari and Maskasath areas will be shifted to a larger site with modern amenities once the market is completed.According to the association, the 16-acre project will cost between Rs 250 crore and Rs 300 crore. The association aims to complete construction within two years. It said 665 traders will be allotted a minimum of 1,000 sq ft each, along with ample parking, wide internal roads, and round-the-clock security. The project will also include a solar power system, rainwater harvesting, and a sewage treatment plant.Speaking on the occasion, association president Pramod Sedani said, “Both traders and customers face major difficulties in the old Itwari-Maskasath market area due to the lack of parking and limited operational space. The new market will not only solve these problems but also emerge as a major commercial hub of Central India. Since the new location is close to the Kalamna market yard, traders will get a great opportunity for business growth.“Secretary Pankaj Chhabariya, Chikhli Committee convener Harish Krishnani, former president Govind Mitra, Mrityukumar Panchmatiya, Sanjay Suchak, Rajendraprasad Vaidya, Harshitmal Katariya, Prakashchand Ghotal, Shiv Pratap Singh, and other office-bearers of the association were present at the ceremony.
