Coimbatore: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, in connection with the murder of a money lender, who was found dead in the city on May 29.RS Puram police identified the arrested as Narpat Singh, 30, from Rajasthan. He runs a mobile shop in RS Puram in the city.According to police, Narpat had borrowed Rs 30,000 from B Abuthahir, 27, and failed to repay it. Abuthahir had allegedly harassed Narpat in front of his wife and daughter, over his inability to repay the borrowed money. “The accused has also claimed that Abuthahir harassed his daughter,” a police officer said.Enraged over the alleged harassment, Narpat planned to murder Abuthahir and asked to meet him on May 29. The duo subsequently met and consumed alcohol together. “After Abuthahir got intoxicated, Narpat strangled him to death with a rope, and dumped his body in an empty drainage canal near Syrian Church on Brooke Bond Road in the city. He further set the body on fire before fleeing the scene,” the officer said.On Wednesday, police identified the accused and tracked him down, after analysing CCTV camera footage. During interrogation, Narpat confessed to the crime.He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
