Srinagar Aug 06 : The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday expressed strong outrage and shock after it came to light that pork products were being listed for sale on the online delivery platform Blinkit in the Kashmir valley.
In a statement the organisation said the development, which came to the fore through screenshots shared by concerned citizens, has triggered sharp reactions from religious quarters.
The MMU, in a statement, underscored that the sale and consumption of pork is strictly prohibited in Islam and that the Muslim community holds immense sensitivity on this matter.
Questioning the authorities, the MMU sought a thorough investigation into how such items were allowed to enter the local market for sale.
The apex religious body also called for strict action and warnings against those found responsible for the lapse.
In a clear directive, the Majlis asked Blinkit to immediately take the products off its shelves and ensure, with utmost seriousness, that pork products are neither stocked, advertised, nor sold in Kashmir.
Asserting that businesses operating in the region must respect the religious and cultural ethos of the area, the MMU maintained that all commercial entities must act responsibly and adhere to local sensitivities. (KNS)
