Mandya: The III additional district and sessions court at Srirangapatna has rejected the bail petition of Aishwarya, daughter of Tumakuru Rural BJP MLA Suresh Gowda.Aishwarya has been accused of slapping, abusing and obstructing a woman police sub-inspector while she was performing bandobast duty at Aarathi Ukkada Temple near Srirangapatna in the third week of Aug.Mandya SP VJ Shobharani told TOI she had no information about developments in the case and asked it to contact investigating officer (IO) Lakshminarayan.The IO told TOI the local court rejected Aishwarya’s bail petition on Aug 31 and police are probing the case.But though 20 days have lapsed since the alleged incident, Mandya police have not acted in the case. CCTV footage allegedly showing the MLA’s daughter slapping the PSI on duty has surfaced, attracting criticism from various quarters.The alleged incident took place on Aug 12 during Bhimana Amavasya celebrations, when a large number of devotees had gathered at the temple. PSI Savitha, who was deployed for security duty from 2pm to 10pm, lodged a complaint at Mandya Women’s police station alleging that Aishwarya slapped her.The BJP MLA had apologised for the incident but blamed the police officer for behaving arrogantly. Aishwarya has lodged a counter-complaint alleging that the PSI abused her.
