Jamshedpur: MLA Saryu Roy on Sunday dumped garbage outside the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) office after the civic body allegedly failed to act on his seven-day ultimatum to clean Murda Maidan. The Jamshedpur (West) legislator from JD(U) reached the site with three tractors, a truck and an earthmover. With the help of residents, he got the accumulated waste removed from the ground and dumped it on vacant land in front of the MMC office.Roy said he had asked MMC additional municipal commissioner Jitendra Yadav to identify a designated dumping site, but was not given any details. “Since no dumping site was specified, the garbage was dumped on the vacant land in front of the corporation’s office. Now, the corporation can take it wherever it wants,” Roy said.According to the MLA, Murda Maidan had not been cleaned for two years and residents had started using it as a dumping ground. The foul smell from the accumulated waste had become a major problem for locals after the monsoon receded.Residents and some ward councillors had approached Roy for intervention. He said he subsequently asked MMC to clean the ground and warned that he would arrange the work himself if the civic body failed to act.MMC deputy municipal commissioner Vijay Verma said the matter would be examined and legal action initiated against those responsible. “We will examine the video footage, identify them and initiate penal action,” he said.
