Ranchi: The state health department is mulling a flyover, underpass, and alternative road network at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) to improve traffic flow and ensure unhindered movement of patients and ambulances on the hospital campus.Additional chief secretary of the health department, Ajoy Kumar Singh, on Monday wrote to the road construction department seeking necessary action on the proposal. “Once approved, other details regarding funding and timelines for implementation will be decided,” said Singh.“A copy of the communication has also been sent to the Rims director,” the health department said in a statement. The proposal envisages a flyover or underpass connecting the northern and southern sections of the Rims campus to facilitate faster movement between the Trauma Centre, Super Speciality blocks, and other medical units. It also includes a separate flyover and dedicated road for vehicles travelling from the Bariatu Road Rims gate towards Kokar, allowing through-traffic to bypass the hospital premises altogether. At present, the road linking Kokar passes through the Rims campus, resulting in heavy movement of both hospital-bound and general traffic on the same stretch. “The situation often leads to congestion and hampers smooth access for ambulances and emergency services,” said an official at Rims. The project will reduce congestion on the campus, improve emergency response time, and enhance traffic management at Jharkhand’s premier govt healthcare institution, which caters to patients from across the state. It will benefit patients, doctors, and healthcare workers, officials said.
