Madikeri: Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda on Monday directed officials to ensure that Kushalnagar does not face any drinking water scarcity during the coming summer.Chairing a meeting with officers of the Kushalnagar Municipality, he stressed the need for timely and effective measures to avert a water crisis. He instructed officials to initiate relief works, including repairing existing borewells, drilling new ones where needed, and strengthening alternative water supply systems.A detailed discussion was conducted at the meeting held at the Kushalnagar Municipality office hall, covering the current water situation, the condition of borewells across villages, and other related concerns.The MLA asked officials to prevent water shortages across all 15 gram panchayats and municipal limits in Kushalnagar taluk. “The water crisis of 2024 may repeat this year, and the meteorological department has predicted a harsh summer. Every village must be equipped with alternative water sources in addition to river water,” he said.He directed officials to visit every village under each gram panchayat, assess old borewells, drill new ones wherever required, and submit a detailed report. He also instructed gram panchayats to convene meetings of local bodies to gather accurate information on ground-level conditions.Manthar Gowda also reviewed the storage levels at the Harangi and Chikliholey reservoirs.
