Aizawl: Mizoram health and family welfare minister Lalrinpuii said on Thursday that since April 1, the state govt has released Rs 22.7 crore towards Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) claims, comprising Rs 13.45 crore for treatments availed within Mizoram and Rs 9.2 crore for treatments outside the state.The minister also said the govt has increased the MUHCS budget allocation from Rs 50 crore for the 2025–26 fiscal year to Rs 130 crore for 2026–27.MUHCS is the Mizoram govt’s cashless healthcare scheme integrated with the central govt’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).Lalrinpuii made these remarks at the commemoration ceremony in Aizawal celebrating the Mizoram State Health Care Society’s (MSHCS) achievements, including receiving ISO Certification and two national awards under AB PM-JAY. The awards included the Best State (Beneficiary Enrolment) Award and the Best Performing Small State Award for the highest number of bio-authentications in 2025–26. She congratulated MSHCS for its accomplishments and lauded the dedication, commitment and hard work of all officials and staff, including the CEO, in the successful implementation of MUHCS.The minister emphasised that timely settlement of hospital bills remains a priority of the govt and assured that all efforts are being made to ensure prompt and uninterrupted payments to healthcare institutions.She said the MUHCS has emerged as a flagship healthcare scheme for Mizoram and assured that the govt would continue to strengthen and expand the scheme to meet the healthcare needs of residents.Appealing for continued public support and cooperation, Lalrinpuii said, “I earnestly seek the support and cooperation of all citizens to ensure that MUHCS continues to serve as a dependable healthcare safety net for the people of Mizoram. I am hopeful that the financial burden and anxiety associated with medical treatment, which have long affected many families, will continue to be alleviated through the scheme.”The event was chaired by health and family welfare secretary K Lalrinzuali while MSHCS CEO Dr Lalhriatzuali Ralte delivered the keynote address. It was also attended by World Bank Task Team Leader Dr Navneet Kaur and other members of the World Bank team.
