Mizoram has named Lalzirmawia Chhangte, a retired IAS officer, as Information Commissioner. Bringing more than three decades of administrative experience and strong academic credentials, his appointment is expected to strengthen the state’s transparency and Right to Information framework. Chhangte previously served as a secretary to the Mizoram government.

Aizawl: Mizoram has appointed Lalzirmawia Chhangte, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the new information commissioner, a notification issued from the state general administration department (GAD) said.With over three decades of administrative experience, Chhangte, a native of Tarpho village in south Mizoram’s Hnahthial district, has held several key positions across various departments in the Mizoram govt, contributing to policy formulation and public administration.

Chhangte, who joined the Mizoram Civil Service in 1991, retired from service as secretary to the Mizoram govt.Apart from his administrative credentials, Chhangte possesses a strong academic background, holding a Master of Arts (MA) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degrees, along with a Bachelor’s degree in civil service. He also earned a postgraduate diploma in public administration and a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degree.Chhangte’s appointment to the state information commission is expected to further strengthen the institution tasked with upholding transparency and ensuring effective implementation of the Right to Information framework in the state.Currently, the state information commission is headed by retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer John Neihlai.
