Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the state’s annual budget for 2026-27 in the legislative assembly on Feb 26. Assembly speaker Lalbiakzama said on Tuesday the budget session will begin on Feb 17 and continue until March 16.Lalbiakzama said the Assembly’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC) met for the second time on Tuesday to reschedule the calendar. It was decided that the CM would present the budget on Feb 26, as the finance department would not be fully prepared by Feb 19, the date fixed earlier by the BAC.
The session, initially scheduled to end on March 12, has been extended to March 16. As decided in the earlier BAC meeting, governor Gen Vijay Kumar Singh will deliver his customary address on Feb 17, the first day of the sixth session of the ninth assembly. The motion of thanks on the governor’s address will be discussed and concluded on Feb 18.
General discussion on the budget will be held on March 2 and 3, followed by govt business and demand-wise discussion.The upcoming session is expected to be stormy, with opposition parties likely to raise the alleged land scam in the acquisition of land at Lengpui near Aizawl for an Indian Air Force establishment.
