Aizawl: Administrations of Mizoram’s Kolasib district and neighbouring Cachar district in Assam on Tuesday discussed closer cooperation on border security, drug control and development, as well as preparations for an inter-state border festival in Vairengte next month.Kolasib deputy commissioner H Dolianbuaia met his Cachar counterpart, Rahul Kumar Gupta, at the Cachar DC’s conference hall. They discussed preparations for the festival, scheduled for Oct 30, and other areas of cooperation between the neighbouring districts.The officials agreed to extend full cooperation to ensure the festival’s success. It will feature futsal, badminton, volleyball and table tennis, along with cultural performances. ATMA and the Mizoram State Rural Livelihoods Mission will also set up stalls.The meeting focused on maintaining peace and security in the border areas, strengthening efforts against drug trafficking and increasing cooperation in development projects.Kolasib SP Lalrinpuia Varte and Cachar SSP Partha Protim Das also discussed coordination between the two police forces, including measures to combat drug trafficking across the districts.During previous talks aimed at finding an amicable and lasting solution to the Assam-Mizoram boundary dispute, the two states agreed to maintain peace and the status quo in disputed areas. They also agreed to organise cultural and sporting events to promote goodwill among communities along the inter-state border. EOM
