Patna: The much-awaited railway overbridge (ROB) on the Mithapur-Parsa route is likely to be completed by Dec 2026, providing relief to commuters facing prolonged traffic jams at level crossing number 4. The superstructure work is around 80% complete while the foundation and substructure have been fully completed.Road construction department secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal on Saturday said the project, being executed by Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL), was progressing rapidly and was expected to open to the public by the end of the year.The project is being constructed between Patna Junction and Parsa bazaar railway stations under the Mithapur-Mahuli Road project.Pal said, “The remaining work is expected to gain pace after the Railways grants the required power block. Once construction is completed and necessary approvals are obtained, the bridge will be opened to the public.”According to Pal, the RCD had sought approval for the power block from the Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Danapur, on Aug 12, 2026. Once permission is received from the Railways, the remaining superstructure and road works will be taken up on priority.The ROB is expected to provide a permanent solution to congestion at Level Crossing No. 4, where traffic is frequently held up by train movement. The railway gate often remains closed for extended periods, resulting in long queues on both sides.The overbridge will allow vehicles to cross the railway line without being affected by train operations, improving traffic movement on the Mithapur-Parsa route and reducing travel time for thousands of daily commuters.It will particularly benefit commuters travelling between Mithapur, Parsa bazaar, Mahuli and Punpun, as well as those using the Gaya-Patna corridor. Office-goers, students, commercial vehicles and local residents are expected to benefit from smoother journeys. Ambulances and other essential vehicles will also no longer have to wait for the crossing to reopen.“Completion of the important Mithapur-Mahuli stretch would improve the overall movement of vehicles along Patna-Punpun corridor. Better connectivity with Parsa bazaar, Mahuli and Gaya-Patna route is expected to facilitate economic activity and improve access to key parts of the city and surrounding areas,” the secretary said.
