Guwahati: The body of a youth was found in a river in Kamrup district, near the town of Hajo, on Wednesday, police said. He was missing since Sunday from Majorkuri village.Two persons have been arrested on the basis of preliminary investigations.The deceased has been identified as Munindra Deka, a resident of Majorkuri village. “The police had received a missing person’s report on Sunday. The complaint was lodged in Ramdia police outpost. Based on that, we began a preliminary investigation and had arrested two persons,” said Punnam Pegu, additional SP (crime).The arrested persons were identified as Raju Deka and Mridul Deka, who are brothers. “During interrogation, they confessed to killing Munindra following a personal dispute that escalated while they were under the influence of alcohol. The brothers beheaded Munindra and later dumped his body in Kolajal river at Gendhelatari Hirapara,” the ASP said.During the investigation, both National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) deployed their rescue personnels and after hours of search, they recovered the body.Pegu said an investigation is on to ascertain the reason behind the murder. “Till now we got to know that there was another man involved in this case but he is absconding. We are investigating his whereabouts currently,” he added.The two accused were produced before a local court on Wednesday, which granted two days of police remand for further interrogation.
