Patna: A 20-year-old woman, who had been missing for three days, was found dead in a well at Nehusa village under Harnaut police station area in Nalanda district on Sunday.According to her family, Khushbu Kumari, daughter of Sanjay Mahato, left home on the morning of July 24 carrying her educational certificates, bank passbook and other important documents. When she did not return, family members launched a search.Her body was found floating in a well inside the Shri Ram Janki temple premises, barely 5 metres from her house. Local residents alerted the police, who recovered the body with the help of villagers and sent it to Biharsharif for post-mortem.Police said it is too early to determine whether Khushbu was murdered and her body dumped in the well or whether she died by suicide.

The investigation is being carried out from both angles.Family members said Khushbu had earlier struggled with mental health issues and underwent treatment in Ranchi. They claimed her condition had improved and she had been leading a normal life in recent months.Police sources said black marks were visible on her face and there were injury marks on her body, prompting a detailed investigation.Inspector-cum-Harnaut SHO Mukesh Kumar Verma said the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team reached the spot and collected evidence.“Further legal action will be taken based on the post-mortem findings and the outcome of the investigation. We are probing the case from both murder and suicide angles,” Verma said.Police are questioning family members and local residents. More details are expected after the post-mortem report is received.
