Jaipur: A 21-year-old woman who had been missing for more than a week was found dead in a well in Jaipur’s Jamwa Ramgarh area Tuesday night, prompting police to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.Police said the body was in an advanced state of decomposition and is suspected to have been in the well for seven to eight days. The exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report is received.The woman had been reported missing on June 16, following which her family and local police launched a search.According to officials, the body was discovered in a well located about 200 metres from her residence. Villagers alerted authorities after spotting the body.Police, administrative officials and a Civil Defence rescue team carried out a retrieval operation. After nearly 20 minutes of effort, rescue personnel recovered the body and handed it over to police.The discovery triggered concern among residents, many of whom expressed surprise that the body remained unnoticed for several days despite the well being located close to residential houses and frequently used routes.Investigators are examining all possible angles, including accidental death, suicide and foul play. Police are also trying to reconstruct the woman’s movements before she went missing and are recording statements of family members and residents.
