Patna: A 30-year-old farmer, who had been missing since Aug 8, was found dead in the Gandak canal near Bhainsahi village in Gopalganj’s Manjhagarh police station area on Monday. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem and launched a probe into the case.The deceased, identified as Chinku Yadav of Bhainsahi village, had gone missing from his home two days ago. Family members initially suspected he had drowned in the canal and searched for him with the help of local divers before informing the police.An SDRF team was subsequently pressed into service, and the body was later recovered from the canal. The victim’s family alleged that he was murdered and his body dumped in the canal to conceal evidence. They claimed he had deep injury marks on his neck and face.Chinku had married two years ago and had become a father just 10 days before the incident. He was the younger of two brothers. His elder brother had died in a road accident last year.Manjhagarh SHO Niranjan Kumar said preliminary findings suggested the victim might have been killed. “The family claimed there were deep injury marks on his neck and face. Prima facie, Chinku appears to have been killed,” he said.The SHO added that forensic samples had been collected and technical experts engaged in the investigation. No formal complaint had been submitted by the family till Monday, he said, adding that further action would be taken based on their application.
