Kanpur: A 14-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Ganga river early Tuesday at Paramat Ghat. The deceased, identified as Shivam Gupta, had reportedly gone to bathe in the Ganga along with three friends.However, the boys ventured into deep water and started drowning.Shivam’s friend, Golu Sahu, 14, who was standing close to the ghat, said that upon raising the alarm, nearby boatmen jumped into the river.With their help, three boys were rescued safely, but Shivam was nowhere to be found.After a thorough search, his body was recovered. Manvendra Singh, in-charge of Gwaltoli police station, said that the families of the children have been notified. All of them had gone there to bathe.
