Nagpur: A 17-year-old girl studying in Class 12 delivered a stillborn premature baby after seven months of pregnancy at Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) earlier this week, in a case raising concerns of sexual assault and teenage pregnancy. The minor, who had recently appeared in HSC examinations, developed serious health complications and was initially admitted to a private hospital in Sakkardara, when her condition worsened. Medical staff there discovered she was pregnant and promptly informed Kotwali police before referring her to GMCH for specialized care.At GMCH, the teenager went into premature labour and gave birth to a stillborn fetus. Due to her fragile physical and emotional condition, doctors declared her unfit to provide a statement, and she has so far been unable to disclose details about the pregnancy or identity of the person responsible.Kotwali police, accompanied by a counsellor, visited GMCH to handle the sensitive situation. An FIR has been registered under sections of the IPC related to rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against an unidentified accused.Police are investigating how the pregnancy remained undetected by the girl’s family and school over several months. Meanwhile, the teenager continues to receive medical treatment and psychological support, with child welfare officials involved to ensure her protection and rehabilitation.
