Dibrugarh: Ministers Sushanta Borgohain and Keshab Mahanta on Monday toured flood-hit Dhemaji district to assess damage.The high-level delegation, accompanied by Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and MLAs Prasanta Phukan (Dibrugarh), Bhubon Pegu (Jonai) and Jiban Gogoi (Sissiborgaon), visited Ananda Nagar under Simenmukh village panchayat and reviewed erosion and flooding. The team also visited the Harinathpur Primary School relief camp and interacted with affected residents. They inspected the damaged section of the railway bridge over the Simen River and assessed riverbank erosion in Sissiborgaon Revenue Circle under the Jonai constituency.“We visited Ananda Nagar under Simenmukh Village Panchayat to assess the overall situation caused by erosion and floods. I have directed the concerned officials to take active measures so that the flood-affected people can immediately receive all necessary facilities and essential commodities,” Borgohain said.Mahanta said the flooding was largely triggered by relentless rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh and that the situation had improved slightly. “We spoke with people at the Harinathpur Primary School relief camp and listened to their concerns. The concerned departments have been instructed to ensure timely food, clean drinking water, medical services and other essential facilities reach the affected people,” he added.The DDMA said 15,483 people from 69 villages across Jonai, Sissiborgaon, Dhemaji and Gogamukh were affected as of 10 pm Sunday, with Jonai worst hit and 31 villages inundated. Two relief camps have been opened in Jonai. SDRF and NDRF teams are conducting rescue operations using motorised boats; one NDRF team from Sivasagar has arrived, and another from Itanagar is en route.
