Mangaluru: Preparations began for the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the second phase of the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Vikas Yojana (MGNVY) worth Rs 165 crore. MLC Ivan D’Souza held a preliminary meeting on Tuesday and said that the foundation stone for the second phase of the MGNVY within the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits will be laid on April 18 by urban development minister Byrathi Suresh and Dakshina Kannada district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.Over 100 roads and various projects will commence evenly across 60 wards of the city corporation at a cost of Rs 165 crore. The state govt’s release of funds for the long-pending concrete roads and other necessary roads is commendable and praiseworthy, the MLC said.Under the leadership of the MLC, preparations for this foundation stone-laying ceremony were reviewed. D’Souza said that on April 18, at 9am, a groundbreaking ceremony will begin within the MCC limits, followed by the second event near Valencia Circle. The third event will be near Chilimbi Hill in the city, and the fourth at the road leading to St Dominic Church near the Scheduled Caste Colony at Urwa Store. A public meeting is scheduled at 11am at Ambedkar Bhavan, Urwa Store, he said and appealed to people to participate in large numbers in the public meeting.
