Mangaluru: District minister Dinesh Gundu Rao directed that the ongoing multi-village drinking water projects in Dakshina Kannada district be completed quickly to ensure prompt water supply.On Friday, he held a meeting with officials at the DC’s office to discuss the drinking water arrangements for summer, and measures to address potential seasonal issues arising in the district.Currently, five multi-village drinking water projects are underway in the district. Once completed, these projects will resolve drinking water woes in most rural areas of the district. He noted that there are some issues with forest land in certain areas which should be resolved in coordination with the forest department.Dakshina Kannada ZP CEO Narwade Vinayak Karbhari said that multi-village drinking water projects are underway in Ilanthila of Belthangady taluk, Alankaru and Kutruppadi of Kadaba taluk, Alike of Bantwal taluk and Kairangala of Ullal taluk. The projects are expected to be completed in the next six to seven months. A proposal worth Rs one crore has been submitted to replace the gates of the Maravoor dam, he added.5.5m water in Thumbe DamMCC commissioner Ravichandra Naik said that the Thumbe Dam, which supplies water to the city, has 5.5 metres of water available at present. Water supply in the city is good, and water is being supplied to higher areas through tankers, he said.The minister gathered information from officials about the drinking water situation in rural and urban areas. He issued strict instructions to ensure public does not face any drinking water issues.The minister expressed strong dissatisfaction with the implementation of Jalasiri project in Mangaluru. Complaints have been received about main roads being dug up to lay pipes and not being covered even after a long time, causing significant disruption to traffic. He instructed that the dug-up roads be restored on a priority basis. In response, KUIDFC officials said that roads will be restored soon.
