“At present, there is no notable weather system that would make the mercury shoot up abnormally. The minor fluctuation is seasonal, and we can expect only a gradual temperature rise for now,” said a Met official. While the maximum temperature is expected to continue hovering around 29°C over the next two days, the minimum temperature is likely to go up slightly further to reach around 18° by Thursday. Since the city is still getting the dry northerly or north-westerly wind, the moisture content in the air is less, preventing humid conditions. While a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal, officials at the Alipore Met Office said this system will be too far away to cause any direct impact in Bengal.
