Mysuru: Food, civil supplies and consumer affairs minister Rizwan Arshad on Wednesday has asked the officials to conduct inspections to check hoarding of sugar.Chairing a Mysuru division-level review meeting at ZP hall, he said the food department is meant to serve the poor and officials should ensure the same. Noting a sudden rise in sugar prices, he directed checks on illegal hoarding. “Take legal action if LPG cylinders are stored beyond permitted numbers,” he said.“The work of legal metrology department is not reaching the public. Officers and staff should conduct more raids where consumers are cheated in weights and measures,” he said.He said 88,424 people in eight districts of Mysuru division have not done e-KYC. “Officers should focus and complete it. E-KYC may be pending due to migration, death, marriage-related shifting and other reasons. After verification, mention in remarks and send to head office, then decision on ration card cancellation will be taken,” he said.He said of 371 foodgrain transport vehicles in eight districts, GPS is installed only in 176. “Install GPS in remaining 195 vehicles within 15 days and submit report,” he told officials.“Conduct more raids on illegal foodgrain storage. Send regular reports on department functioning, which will be reviewed every week,” he said.Deputy controller of legal metrology Sarala Naidu and joint director of food department Manteswamy also spoke.The department’s secretary Kanagavalli, commissioner BR Poornima, director Rajashekar and KFCSC MD Manjunath were present.Arshad condemns FIR against RahulMinister Rizwan Arshad on Wednesday described filing an FIR against leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on an alleged purification ritual held at the venue in Uttarakhand where AICC chief Mallikarjuna Kharge addressed a rally as legal terrorism. Speaking at an interactive session in Mysuru, he condemned such a move as detrimental to the interest of the democratic set-up.He also said his govt initiated measures to strengthen the public distribution system, besides increasing the income of fair price shop licence holders.
