Mumbai: Maharashtra has not received central funds for Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) since Sept 2024, which has caused a delay in implementing projects, state water supply minister Gulabrao Patil said on Monday.JJM is the Modi govt’s flagship scheme to provide tap water supply to rural households. In a written reply in the assembly, Patil said, “Since Sept 2024, the state has not received funds from the Centre. The Water Supply Contractor’s Association sent a letter on December 6, 2025, saying if their demands are not fulfilled, they will stop work.” He said of 51,560 works under JJM, 26,499 had been completed. Another 25,061 were in various stages of completion. Patil said from 2019-20 till now, Rs 36,269.6 crore—Rs 20,536.6 crore from the state and Rs 15,733 crore from the Centre—had been spent on the scheme. Since Sept 2024, with no fund from the Centre coming in, the state provided Rs 4,832 crore to keep the scheme running.He said Rs 31,371 crore was required to complete works under the scheme in the state. For the coming year, the state has made a provision of Rs 4,800 crore, he said. —Priyanka Kakodkar
