Koraput: A mild earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 5 km, was recorded across several parts of Koraput district late on Saturday night, triggering brief panic among residents. However, no damage to property or loss of life was reported.According to officials, the tremor was felt at around 11:31 pm in Jeypore, Sunabeda, Koraput town and Semiliguda. The sudden tremor prompted many residents to rush out of their homes as a precaution.District emergency officer (Koraput) Sauranjita Majhi said the administration remains on alert and is closely monitoring the situation. “We received reports of the tremor from multiple locations across the district. However, there has been no report of any loss of life or property damage so far. Our teams are keeping a close watch,” Majhi said.Residents recalled moments of anxiety as the tremor struck late at night. “We felt the bed shaking for a few seconds and immediately stepped out of our house. It was frightening, especially at that hour,” said Ankit Hota, a resident of Jeypore.A resident of Sunabeda said people in the locality rushed out to the streets after feeling the tremor. “It created panic for a while, but thankfully it subsided quickly and nothing serious happened,” the resident added.
