Nagpur: Tuesday’s downpour brought large parts of the city to a standstill while Mihan and Hingna MIDC — two of the city’s biggest industrial and employment hubs — were among the worst affected areas. Flooded roads, stranded vehicles, and waterlogged industrial units exposed glaring shortcomings in the city’s stormwater drainage infrastructure.At Mihan, roads leading to major IT companies disappeared under water, forcing hundreds of employees to wade through ankle-to-knee-deep water after work. Videos from the area showed entire stretches submerged, with several low-lying pockets resembling ponds rather than roads inside what is promoted as central India’s premier IT destination.Employees alleged that inadequate stormwater drainage, poorly maintained roadside drains and recurring water accumulation continue to disrupt movement across the township, raising concerns over the area’s readiness to support global investment.The situation was equally grim in Hingna MIDC, where the road connecting the industrial area to Wadi turned into a river-like stream. Commuters remained stuck for more than two hours, with several vehicles breaking down in the middle of the road. Many owners were forced to push their vehicles through the flowing water.Rainwater also entered several factories and commercial establishments in Hingna MIDC. Water reportedly rose up to three-and-a-half feet inside some industrial units, disrupting operations and damaging goods.Main roads within the area remained submerged, with water levels rising above the wheels of parked vehicles. Two-wheeler riders struggled to navigate the flooded roads as streams of rainwater flowed past factory entrances, once again highlighting the vulnerability of one of Nagpur’s key industrial corridors during heavy rains.
