Nagpur: After the state govt’s approval earlier this year, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has started the process for acquiring more than 6,700 acres of land in Saoner for the proposed defence, nuclear and aerospace (DNA) corridor.Notices inviting objections have been issued to the landholders, which is the first step towards the acquisition process. This would be followed by the offering of rates and other processes, said sources involved in the development.The DNA corridor is expected to emerge as the biggest industrial estate in the region. The land has been primarily earmarked for allotment to defence, nuclear and aerospace sectors. However, other industries would be accommodated too, but the three sectors would be given priority, said sources.The Rs10,000 crore fertiliser plant planned by Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and Rashtriya Chemical Fertilisers (RCF) would also come up at Saoner. The two PSUs have signed an MoU to build the plant in Vidarbha.While the location of the fertiliser plant has not been finalised, Saoner is already on the radar, sources said. Teams from GAIL have visited the site. The fertiliser plant would need around 800 acres of land for the plant as well as a township. This makes the DNA corridor the ideal site for the project, a source said.Saoner MLA Ashish Deshmukh has also been strongly advocating for bringing up the fertiliser plant in his constituency.
